Santa Cruz Public Libraries

The Genealogical Society Collection

April 2004

The Californiana Room houses the collection of the Genealogical Society of Santa Cruz County. The items in the Genealogical Society's collection, more than 8000 volumes, may be distinguished by their GenSoc call number. These items are only available for use in the library and may not be checked out. Both print and digital media are available. They cover virtually every state in the U.S. and many foreign countries. Some items are unique to this collection. This includes indexed cemetery records, marriage records and other records of special interest to researchers with Santa Cruz County roots.

Volunteers from the Society staff the Californiana Room daily. They help users with their genealogical research. They can also assist with inter-library loans of genealogical materials from other libraries throughout the country.

The Californiana Room houses the Library's collection of local history materials as well as microfilm of local newspapers. The Central Branch also maintains a newspaper clipping file on local topics.

Both collections are listed in the Library's online catalog
